Piano Lesson 1: Getting Started
Great! Let’s start with Lesson 1 of your piano learning journey. 🎹
I’ll teach you step by step, just like a real piano course.
🎹 Piano Lesson 1: Getting Started
1. Posture & Hand Position
- Sit comfortably at the piano/keyboard.
- Your back should be straight, shoulders relaxed.
- Place your hands on the keys like you’re holding a small ball.
- Fingers should be curved, not flat.
2. The Keyboard Layout
- The piano has white keys and black keys.
- Black keys are in groups of 2 and 3.
- The white key just to the left of every group of 2 black keys is C.
👉 Try to find all the C notes across your piano.
3. Finger Numbers
Each finger has a number:
- Thumb = 1
- Index = 2
- Middle = 3
- Ring = 4
- Little finger = 5
👉 Place your right hand thumb (1) on Middle C.
Keep each finger on the next white key (C–D–E–F–G).
4. First Exercise (Right Hand)
Play slowly, one note at a time:
C → D → E → F → G → F → E → D → C
Repeat a few times until smooth.
5. Rhythm (Counting)
- Start with 4/4 time (4 beats in each measure).
- Count: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 while pressing each note once per beat.
✅ Practice for Lesson 1
- Find all C’s on your keyboard.
- Practice finger numbers on Middle C to G.
- Play the exercise smoothly while counting.
Would you like me to also give you sheet music (notes on staff) for this first exercise, so you can start reading music right away?
Perfect 👍 Let’s add sheet music for Lesson 1 so you can connect what you play on the keys with what you see on the staff.
---
🎼 Lesson 1 – First Exercise Sheet Music
This exercise uses only C–D–E–F–G (right hand).
Treble Clef (Right Hand):
C D E F G F E D C
| ♩ | ♩ | ♩ | ♩ | ♩ | ♩ | ♩ | ♩ | ♩ |
Each note is a quarter note (♩).
You count 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 for every 4 notes.
---
How to Read It
Treble clef (𝄞) → means right hand.
Notes go up on the staff as the keys go higher.
Middle C is on a small line below the staff.
---
✅ Practice Tip
Look at the sheet, say the note name (C–D–E…), and press the key at the same time.
Do this slowly until your brain connects the notes with the keyboard.
